5 months in PA

Mommy has been a slacker with my blog! Shortly after the last post Mommy & Daddy found out they are having a baby in March so I'm looking forward for something new to eat play with.
I've got some new toys since the summer My favorite one is a big blue rope. (it's a rope that went through the center of a Kong type ball, he pulled the rope out the first day & he loves it) I also got a new collar & a name tag in case I ever run away from home. I eat different food & bones now since it was the other stuff making me poop funny.
I met up with a porcupine - 3 weeks ago tonight actually - it didn't go over so well.

I ended up with about 20 quills under my nose, a few in my left paw & some on the right side of my snout. (I did want to get the quills out as soon as this happened but I couldn't resist taking a picture) I let mommy & daddy take most of them out but some of them were too deep & I was getting grumpy. I had my first visit to the emergency room to get the last few out, they made me take a nap & I when I woke up they were all gone. I had to take some stinky pills for a while but I'm all better now. It looks like I'm going to have 3 scars under my nose from the worst ones, 3 little pink dots.
I bonded with Daddy very quickly when I first came here but I am now most definitely a mamma's boy. Mommy's home a lot more than Daddy so I'm with her all the time. She tells me I'm up her butt sometimes so we are working very hard on the stay command.
I've developed a little crush on my grandma, everyone thinks it's funny. I've met some more people & a few kids since I've been here. I even have my own baby doll (it's motion activated) that wiggles & cries. (we thought this might help him get used to having an infant around) Mommy pats it & says be nice to the baby so I usually lick it. One time I nibbled on it's sock but mommy told me no.

We are not registered at the message board for the shelter where I came from so Mommy just wanted to post a quick note here that she recently read my rottie sister Dolce became ill & has crossed the rainbow bridge. To the M family - we are so sorry to hear this, we know how painful it is to lose a pet.

This is a copy & paste from Mommy's blog, it happened last Monday.

Monday was pretty interesting. It was just about 8 o'clock & we were getting ready to watch King Kong on tv; it was starting to rain so hubby ran the dog out. A minute later I hear him talking very loudly downstairs so I ask what's wrong. "I think he ate a frog" I grab a towel & a bowl of water remembering some frogs/toads have a liquid they emit in order to protect themselves. The poor dog is frothing at the mouth, we're trying to make him throw up & get the saliva off his skin & out of his mouth. He finally throws up & here's me digging through it to find what he ate, all I find is his dinner from 2 hours earlier. By now it's pouring, hubby goes outside to find whatever it was since we thought it could be a Cane toad (they are very toxic) Hubby found the poor thing; it could only move the top legs not the bottom. It was not visibly injured or mangled thankfully & he is now in semi hibernation in my freezer. Please do not criticize me, this is the humane way to kill it, I checked many websites. The dog has no other symptoms & he was thoroughly rinsed & washed inside & out so we think he just got a little taste. Needless to say our movie night never happened since by the time all of this was over it was close to 10 PM.

I am learning new words because of this. While we walk & I snuffle around on the ground mommy says stuff like 'rock' 'leaf', etc. cause there are so many things that look like frogs until you get right up on them! I'm also not allowed to get too close to the creek anymore, even in the daytime. Mommy is afraid that if I get to liking frogs I won't be able to resist toads.

Mommy has been a little busy lately. I've finally seen frogs, like 4 in the past week. The first one I saw jumped out of the garden. I got so startled I grabbed it in my mouth as it jumped. Daddy made me drop it. (& then checked the frog for damages, he was OK) Today I saw a grasshopper; I was hoping to catch it but it went into the bushes too fast & I couldn't pick up a scent for it.
I had a birthday since we last posted; I am now 4 years old. There is a chance that Milk Bones don't agree with my tummy, it seems my poop gets funny when I eat them. I think this means Mommy is going to start baking goodies for me, not just for Daddy!
Speaking of goodies reminds me of exercise - the parents say I make them feel lazy. Mommy has little legs & walks slower than me, when she runs full steam I'm still jogging. Daddy can keep up with me but once we get running he doesn't last as long as I do. At least they're trying!

Since this is such a short post here is a picture of me getting ready to take a nap on the upstairs deck.

more about my week

There are lots of animals here at my new house. In the yard I've seen chipmunks, squirrels & deer. On my walks I've seen big turtles. I hear some strange noises too but I have yet to see what makes the noises (turkeys & frogs)
I like that no one yells at me but when they tell me no - like when I stick my head in the garbage or sit by the table it's a little louder than normal. They are very silly too, they laugh a lot. I know that they like rottweilers because they have a nice painting of one & a picture in a frame of another one right by their bed. I've been on the no people leash a few times when they are too busy outside to hold me. (we put him on a leash that is fastened to a pulley on a wire so he can roam 'freely' while we are doing yardwork) I got brushed a few times & I've had some belly rubs too.
This weekend we took a car ride to meet my new grandma & her dog. Everyone seemed glad that we got along but they weren't too glad when I tried to hump her (grandma's dog, not grandma), She seemed happy at least so I tried a few more times. They kept telling us no & said something about us being fixed but that doesn't mean we don't have urges sometimes!
I don't eat people food just dog food & treats. Mommy knows how to make homemade doggie treats, I heard her telling Daddy she's going to make some soon. I like to eat bugs outside, this makes mommy nervous because she's afraid I might eat things called bees & wasps. I like to eat ice cubes too, when I hear them I run towards the big white box to get one. Daddy put up something he calls a spotlight on the dark side of the house so now we can walk around the whole house when it's dark.

almost a week

So far so good here in my new home. I go for at least 4 walks a day, I have breakfast & dinner. I've started playing more with my Kong Wubba; it's more fun with Daddy cause he's stronger & holds on longer, Mommy keeps trying but I can pull it away from her too easy.
We've had a few thunderstorms but they don't bother me at all. It's been hot the last few days, that I don't like too much. I had my first wet wrestling match bath, it was nice to get rubbed all over & I ate a lot water. I feel so much better & stink less so maybe baths are OK.
It is starting to lightning so I'll finish this later.

My first full day here

So we made it through the night together. I didn't sleep on my bed but I slept good. Daddy got up pretty early. At first I pretended I was sleeping but he when he asked if I wanted to go out I got up. We took a little walk then came in. Mommy was up but still in bed when Daddy left. I didn't know where he was going so I waited by the door for him. I was down there about an hour & Mommy called me upstairs to have a small breakfast, I don't think she knows how much I eat. Then we went on the back porch so I could check on my bone while she brushed me. I spent a few minutes watching some little brown thing running along the driveway. Mommy called it a chipmunk. Once we were back inside I headed over to my waiting spot. Mommy came down with my bed so I sat on it. About an hour went by & she told me it was time for a walk. This walk was a little longer than my first walk but not as long as last nigt. I came inside then she left too. I thought it was nice that she left the radio on for me & to show my appreciation I didn't eat the garbage; I knew that was something she was worried about. I was by myself for about 5 hours so I spent most of my time napping on my bed (so mommy thinks because of the footprints & hairs on it) Daddy came home & we went for a long walk, so long that we decided to take a nap when we got back. Mommy came home just before we fell asleep so we stayed up a litle longer. I woke up a bit later because I heard my dish being moved & we all had dinner together. I was so glad to see more food since this morning I was very worried that mommy didn't know how much to feed me! After dinner we went for another walk; I like my later walks better than my morning walks since they last longer. Tonight I was playing with my Kong Wubba a bit, I have to be careful when I shake it though cause I have a feeling it can hurt people if it hits them. I got to sit on the front porch without my leash tonight :-) Mommy stayed close by while Daddy laughed. Now I'm lyng by his feet watching him play his Army game & it sounds like Mommy is getting ready for bed which means Daddy will be taking me out for one more walk pretty soon & we'll go to sleep too.

Introduction

I am a 3 year old male rottweiler. I lived with Mommy M & Daddy J in New York but when they had to move my sister & I weren't allowed in the new place. Someone found us at a shelter & brought us to Pets Alive. We went to live with a family in Connecticut for awhile but I was a little feisty with their children so I came back to Pets Alive. Today I had an early birthday present, I was adopted by Mommy C & Daddy G. They took me to my new home in Pennsylvania. They used to live in New York so I'll take them at their word that PA is nice.
We had a long car ride home with 2 stops to stretch my legs & for mommy to do some shopping for me. Good thing she likes shopping. I have a new bed, food, milk-bones, training treats, new bowls, a Kong wubba, a bone & a brush. She bought me shampoo too but daddy said to wait on giving me a bath since today was already a very crazy day for all 3 of us. After I explored my new yard & home I threw up on the carpet. Daddy took out some big black noisy thing with lights to clean it up. When it started shooting out water I barked at it a bit just to see what would happen. They had some some lunch then we went out for a walk. There is a creek right across the street that I can wade through. I had to wait for mommy on the other side because she thought I might knock her off balance as she crossed the rocks. When we came home I threw up again but that was mostly water. I felt bad but mommy rubbed my head & said it happens to everyone when they get too excited.
The only trouble today was when daddy tried to take my bone from under his chair; I growled & snapped a little bit. This happened twice. Mommy wasn't too happy about that so she finally decided I should pick up my bone & bring it outside on the porch. After about 5 minutes I wanted to see what they were doing so I bumped on the door & mommy let me in. I overheard her telling daddy that the bone would stay outside for a while to see how things went so I made sure to leave it outside before I bumped on the door. I checked on it when I came back from my walk, it was just where I left it!
So far they seem nice so as long as I can make peace with them touching my bone once in a while things should be fine. Daddy is big & strong like me, he walks fast & talks with a deep voice. Mommy is little so I try to walk slower when she holds my leash. They have a nice big yard with lots of trees. Right now mommy thinks I'm taking a nap with daddy; she peeked in to see me right next to their bed, I haven't decided if I like my bed yet.
